TEXAS now allows it's Firemen and First Responders to carry a firearm for self defense while on duty
With the hundreds of firemen and first responders that have died responding to calls of a violent nature before law enforcement can get there, Texas has just passed a law allowing these heroes to carry a firearm while on duty. Disciplines
Texas LTC (License To Carry Certification)
The mandated Texas License To Carry course does not teach you anything about actually using and being safe with your firearms. At SDI we do not believe in certifying anyone to carry without first making sure they have all the information necessary to at least be safe with their firearm. That being said, our LTC course is actually 2 classes in one. The first part is the official SDI safety, manipulations and marksmanship course. Once you are tuned up we start the 2nd part which is the official Texas LTC course by shooting the test. Our students have noticed a marked improvement in their scores because we teach the curriculum this way. Then we fall back to the classroom to study the law and take the written test at the end. These two courses only require 8 hours of your time.
Defensive Handgun
Here's a question every license to carry holder or firearms enthusiast should ask themselves. Can you draw your weapon from whichever way you carry and get it into position to deliver 2 fight stopping rounds in under 2 seconds? Believe it or not that is the standard time that would be necessary to stop an attack. 90% of a gunfight is getting the gun out of the holster and pointed into your target. This course creates a safe environment for you to learn how to deal with what might possibly be your worst nightmare. This curriculum is the cornerstone of all the other disciplines and is the bread and butter of SDI. It is designed for people of all skill levels. SDI is not a military training facility. Although we call ourselves a firearms academy we are in fact a resort. So please don't feel that you have to know a great deal when you come here. Conversely, if you are already skilled with your firearm, you just found a safe place to ramp up your skills to a higher level. Welcome to SDI.
Defensive Rifle
A rifle is the king of personal protection firearms. You've heard of the saying, "Never bring a knife to a gunfight!"? At SDI we take that a step further and say, "Never bring a handgun to a rifle fight!" The truth is, even if you are faced with an adversary that is semi skilled with a rifle and you are adept at using your handgun you are still detrimentally behind the curve at winning that engagement. And yes, a rifle can be used as a defensive weapon if you know how. You will learn not just how to shoot, but you will also learn techniques to keep your rifle running and in the fight. Ultimately this course equips you with rifle skills that will help you survive a dangerous encounter and keep your family safe even against multiple adversaries and flawlessly accomplishing hostage rescues.
Since part of this curriculum involves transitioning from your rifle to your handgun, we require that you take the defensive handgun class first before you can take the rifle class.
"Child Sex Trafficking - How To Identify Who Is Doing It & The Steps To Take To End It."
This is a FREE lecture. SDI's mission is to end human trafficking in our lifetime. According to the statistics the main reason why human trafficking is so prevalent is because most people do not believe it exists in their own backyards. This training series focuses on the signs that we need to pay attention to, and the resources you can use to take the necessary steps to stop your kids and the children of others from being preyed on. We will go through a step by step process of determining, through legal means, whether or not someone in your community is being trafficked for sex and present the most accessible solutions available for you in your own town to aid in fast tracking investigations. Defensive Shotgun
DISCLAIMER: This is not an attempt at supporting one very misinformed politician's advice about buying a double barreled shotgun and firing two "blasts" outside your house to deter bad guys.
The truth is there is nothing more robust in the world of self defense firearms than a shotgun. However, most people fail to train with it to a level that will ensure their survival. Sadly, the shotgun has been the subject of false rhetoric over the years. One example is, "If you want to defend your home just buy a shotgun because you don't need to aim. Just point it in the direction of the bad guy and press the trigger." Unfortunately this advice is just flat out wrong. You have to be accurate with a shotgun. Especially with the power of a 12 gauge in your home. More so because of your loved ones. So accurate in fact that at SDI we will show you how to accomplish hostage rescues even with buck shot.
